How we look after the animals
We work closely on every element of animal care and welfare. It is an important part of our operations, and we are committed to maintaining appropriate welfare standards throughout the handling and processing of livestock.
- Our own buyers choose the livestock we buy, at UK markets.
- Every animal carries its official ear tags, as the law requires, from the farm to the lairage.
- Animals are handled and slaughtered in accordance with Halal requirements and applicable animal welfare requirements, under certification by the Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC).
- In approved meat plants, Food Standards Agency officials check that the rules on food safety and animal welfare are followed.
